Freightliner has signed a new five-year contract with Maersk Line

Freightliner has signed a new five-year contract with Maersk Line, the container arm of the Danish conglomerate A.P. Moller - Maersk. The contract, which takes immediate effect, will run through 2011 and is the biggest Intermodal Rail contract in the UK to date. It consolidates the two previous contracts between Freightliner, Maersk Sealand and P&O Nedlloyd, in place prior to the acquisition of P&O Nedlloyd by Maersk Sealand last year. The contract requires Freightliner to provide 353 round-trip wagon movements per day – exclusively for the transportation of Maersk containers. The wagons will be allocated across 50 of the 86 daily container services that Freightliner operate and will connect the ports of Felixstowe, Southampton and Tilbury with eight separate inland destinations.
