Quest Diagnostics is a leading global provider of pathology testing, information and associated services.
Quest Diagnostics is a leading global provider of pathology testing, information and associated services. Circa 300 million tests are carried out annually, including ten million drug screens. We can address all the needs of an occupational health testing programme and within the realms of toxicology, can also assist with policy development, Medical Review Officer training and collection officer training.
Since November 2002, Heston – the West London site – has had a new addition:
Toxicology. The laboratory currently offers Workplace Drug and Alcohol analysis for corporate clients, Occupational Health Physicians and other Healthcare Professionals. With Olympus technology for the rapid screening element of this discipline and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS) for confirmations, we follow the UK Laboratory Guidelines for Legally Defensible Workplace Drug Testing, co-authored by the toxicology manager. The first quarter of every year is busy for Toxicology as we are subject to our major audits. January is when the auditors for railway industry visit and under scope PP/0043 inspect the laboratory and associated processes. We have been Linkup accredited since 2005 and successfully retained our accreditation this year. In March, the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) visit under scope ISO/IEC 17025. This is currently the industry standard for Workplace Drug and Alcohol testing outside the United States and again we have successfully retained this accreditation.
The skills mix in the department goes beyond ‘doing drugs’. Experience exists from medical research, occupational health monitoring over 15 years’ experience of method development and validation to FDA/GLP guidelines, environmental monitoring and all the associated techniques for a bio-analytical unit. from medical research, occupational health monitoring over 15 years’ experience of method development and validation to FDA/GLP guidelines, environmental monitoring and all the associated techniques for a bio-analytical unit.
