Rolling Stock, Business Improvement
Stadler Rail specialises in customer-tailored rail vehicle solutions. Their best-known products include GTW articulated railcars, the RS1 Regio Shuttle, the FLIRT, the double-deck regional express train DOSTO, the Variobahn and the newly developed
Up until 2007, Stadler Rail AG had concentrated its efforts on the construction of railway vehicles. Increasing global privatisation – particularly in the field of regional express railway services – produced added opportunities for the company in an entirely new business segment – maintenance. Consequently Stadler began offering maintenance services for railway vehicles, using its location in Hungary as the first principal location for those services.
By entering the maintenance business, the company suddenly faced entirely new challenges in terms of planning, scheduling and co-ordinating maintenance activities and in complying with national regulations, as well as in documenting activities and implementing warranty services. Stadler needed a software suite that could tackle these challenges – and found the solution with Infor™ EAM Enterprise Edition.
With Infor EAM Enterprise Edition, Stadler Rail now documents all maintenance activities in complete detail. The system also integrates industrial data capture and wheel measuring systems. The company can now directly manage a new fleet of trains, including the definition of maintenance activities, in one single system.
Based on Infor EAM, Infor’s channel partner IHM Instandhaltungs-Management AG from Zurich developed the maintenance solution ‘Stadler Rail Maintenance Software’ (SRMS). “This allowed us to optimally tailor the Infor EAMS software to our own specific needs. This kind of flexibility was crucial to us,” said Fabian Schüssler, head of the RAM/LCC Switzerland Division and project manager in the International Division at Stadler.
The new system is quickly gaining momentum and has been successful in Hungary for some months now. Due to their positive experience with Infor as well as the newly implemented Infor EAM Enterprise Edition, Stadler is currently thinking about yet another expansion – the use of Infor EAM Enterprise Edition for everything from the production and warranty phase to the clearance and documentation of service activities. Infor EAM could then fully manage the entire lifecycle of new train fleets.
