The main aim of the event, held at the National Theatre in London on the 18th January 2012, was to introduce methods and capabilities that are being used by rail organisations outside of the UK and their benefits to rail organisations within the UK. Attendees included representatives of many rail associated organisations including Network Rail, Bombardier Transport UK, Alstom Transport UK, Alstom Transport France, Alstom Transport Germany, Atkins Global, London Underground and Carillion.
As business grows ever more complex, it becomes increasingly challenging to ensure that all the assets across your business are aligned and performing to their best potential. To achieve profitable operation requires not only a good business deal but also a complete set of success factors from good contractual incentives through effective planning to resource dimensioning and cost control.
Systecon has in-depth knowledge and experience of balancing and optimising resources – manpower, spares, test equipment – to meet the twin objectives of fleet availability and budgets. The event gave visitors unique access to speakers from Systecon, and end users of its systems, to gain insight into their experience and benefit from peer-led discussions and case study materials.
Using a knowledge-based approach, the event enabled the attendees from the rail sector that are responsible for asset management to learn from proven results in improved fleet availability, efficient depot resource utilisation, improved operational profile and tailored maintenance plans.
The main presentations were:
Resource dimensioning for increase of commuter train trafficOle Robertsson, business manager for commuter train traffic at AB Storstockholms Lokaltrafik and Kristina Abelin, logistics engineer, Systecon AB
Bombardier experiences from developing and utilising tools in co-operation with SysteconPh. D. Ulf Westberg, senior specialist advanced vehicle performance and assurance at Bombardier Sweden & Pegvak Assadi, head of business area transportation and industry at Systecon AB
Advanced cost analysis in tender evaluation for new trainsPär Sandin, vice president at Systecon AB and sub project manager for the procurement of the next generation of underground trains for Stockholm Transport.
Given the exciting times that the rail industry in the UK is facing over the next few years most of the attendees found that the event was not only valuable in offering a new view on how some of the existing problems may be approached and resolved but had come at the right time in the current cycle of change.
Consequently each of the presentations generated much discussion amongst the speakers and the attendees on how to apply a similar approach to their own
particular problems.
